A FOUNDATION BUILT ON A PARENT'S PERSPECTIVE

It was the birth of his son that inspired National Heritage Academies' founder, J.C. Huizenga, to begin thinking about education from a parent’s perspective. A successful entrepreneur, Huizenga had a vision to provide a quality edu​cation to all children by applying basic business principles to establish a system of schools that was more accountable and results oriented.

Founded on the four pillars of academic excellence, moral focus, parental partnership, and student responsibility, National Heritage Academies’ first school, Excel Charter Academy, opened its doors to 174 students in September 1995​​​​​​​​​​.

OUR APPROACH

Our belief is simple: set high standards, make expectations clear, provide meaningful instruction, and watch children excel. Every student is given the tools for success – in and out of the classroom. With a commitment to hard work, good citizenship, and personal responsibility, students experience a safe, secure learning environment where achievement thrives.

    • Enrichment classes are an important part of a child’s development and an important part of the school day, providing a time to explore the joy of movement, music, creative expression, or another culture.
    • We also know the value of extra-curricular activities and organized athletics. More than just fun, our after school activities and sports programs teach teamwork, mental focus, fair play, and commitment.

  • Provide guidance when it’s time to take the next step
    • We know how to support each child’s transition to high school. Beginning in middle school, each student is assigned an advocate. The advocate provides step-by-step guidance for high school academic and enrollment requirements.
    • Our students make a smooth transition to high schools in the area and arrive equipped for academic and social success.
